You will learn a new language, and as a result, be able to communicate with more people

Nowadays, we live in an international world. You can easily communicate with someone on the other side of the globe in real time through social media. Because of this, speaking multiple languages is valuable skill that employers love to see in their employees. If you can only speak one language, you limit the amount of people you can communicate with. But if you speak more than one language, you can communicate with much more people.

Studying abroad (in a country whose official language is not English) gives you an opportunity to learn another language! When you live and work in another country, you will be immersed in their language, making it easier for you to learn it. In the future, you will be grateful you studied abroad because it allowed you to speak a new language and to reach more people.

You will refine your planning skills

Moving to a completely new country takes lots of planning. You need to fill out a bunch of paperwork not only for your school, but for immigration to the new country, too. It is critical that this paperwork be turned in to the appropriate place well in advance, because if it isn’t, you will encounter big problems when you land in your new country.

You also need to make sure you have all the material things you will need for your new life. Will it be cold in your new country? Plan to bring a good coat or two! What about an umbrella and rain boots? These are the things you need to plan for when you study abroad. Clearly, moving to another country requires refined planning skills. When you come back, you will be a master planner!

You will gain new connections

Connections are extremely valuable nowadays. When you study abroad, you will gain many new connections! It’s possible that the people you meet while you study abroad will benefit you in the future. You never know if the professor you meet at your new university will write you a recommendation letter for the job of your dreams, or if one of your international friends knows someone in charge of a big company. You might end up helping a friend from your new country get a job, too!

Plus, having friends in your new country is a good excuse to go back, even long after you have completed your time studying abroad. The people you meet and the valuable connections you make while studying abroad could very well help you in the future, and you might help them, too!

You will become more independent

If you are living on your own, you know the feeling of being independent from your parents. You don’t go to them to solve your problems anymore; now, you must solve them yourself. However, packing up and moving to a completely new country brings you another level of independence.

When you study abroad, you are truly on your own for those few months. You have to learn to navigate life in a new place by yourself. It is scary, but it is also quite an accomplishment to achieve such a level of independence. When you return, you will know that you are able to handle yourself, no matter what comes your way. Clearly, studying abroad will benefit you in the future because it will teach you to be independent.

Your application will become more attractive to future employers and graduate school admissions officers

Another benefit of studying abroad is that it will make your application more attractive to future employers or graduate school admissions officers. Whatever you decide to do after you graduate, whether you want to get a job or continue your education through graduate school, studying abroad will make your application more attractive. Studying abroad makes you more well-rounded, and employers and admissions officers want well-rounded people on their team. Your study abroad experience will make you stand out among the pile of applications they must sift through. For these reasons, studying abroad will help you in your future career!

Studying abroad is definitely the opportunity of a lifetime that you shouldn’t pass up! It will teach you so many things and will help you grow as a person. It is an experience you will benefit from even after you return.
